Hatton Garden Heist

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-35767110

Six, seven years each - out in three or four.

With two thirds of the £14m not recovered (and presumably long gone) it this not a massive result for these old men? They're out in a few years and will find ways to keep hold of their cash.

If they are career criminals I doubt prison holds any fears for them. How much would you go to prison for?

"Plas - exactly my point, that items recovered in the intelligence and sting-led searches of the cemetery - people knowing that items have been recovered but still not coming forward to claim them? "

There are obviously a few people of for want of a better way to put it "questionable integrity" These kind of people would have boxes with items that they wouldnt want to see the light of day, possibly stolen, illegal or just used to avoid tax etc.

These items are going to be almost impossible to link back to that particular box so there will be items that have been recovered but will not get back to the owner (at the time of the robbery) as admitting ownership of these particular items would incriminate themselves.

Re: Hatton Garden Heist
Only charged with burglery not robbery so only 10 years max. No weapons or violence too.

Also they have agreed to help recover the goods and if they do not cooperate propely they could get longer sentences.

What are you basing that on? How would you have any idea on who has not come forward to claim their goods?

Re: Hatton Garden Heist
There are lots of "people" who will use safety deposit boxes to hide certain items from HMRC etc. There is no doubt there was a large amount of "undeclared" items being stored in deposits all over the country.

One of the biggest problems the police currently face is actually working out how to return what has been recovered and what belongs to who, a lot will be unable to show receipts or proove ownership etc for items that have been recovered.

As for the secretive nature of what people did store in them, im sure if you asked all your friends what they had in the bank they wouldnt declare it publicly.

Maybe for some (not all) it was just a mistake. Maybe they thought being locked inside a steel vault it was already pretty secure and they didn't need insurance.

Re: Hatton Garden Heist
Plas, not saying that at all, but why would some people be so secretive about it all, not have it insured etc, other than to keep whatever they had well hidden?

You could spin it the other way and assume that some people might well be claiming all sorts off the state, or dodging tax, whilst having thousands of pounds of assets stashed away in a secret box.

I should imagine anyone that lost money/valuables have had to speak to the police. They've also had to speak to insurers (if they were insured).

What good would going to the press do? Would it make them any more likely to get their valuables back?

If I'd had any goods in there I certainly wouldn't my details splashed across the tabloids - what the fuck's it got to do with them?

Re: Hatton Garden Heist
Not everyone who works in Hatton Garden or who stored items in the safe deposit are millionaires.

Those who think that its a victimless crime as no-one got hurt should look at themselves, i bet they wouldnt feel the same if it was a box of their own, their families or grandparents jewellery stolen.

Re: Hatton Garden Heist
Why else would you want to remain anonymous if you'd had high value possessions stolen in a robbery, other than because you want to keep details out of the public domain?

Why wouldn't they want to remain anonymous? Not sure how that's suspicious.

Rossall

Its suspicious that a lot of the people who have lost items are desperate to remain anonymous and the details of what and to what value, the items that have stolen have been kept vague.

Sounds suspiciously like some have lost items and assets that they want to keep from HMRC etc.

Might even be that the gang targeted boxes that contained items stashed from previous robberies.

Re: Hatton Garden Heist
Their sentences are the least of their worries.

I imagine that there are some deposit box holders of Hatton Garden Safe Deposit Ltd who will be a little bit disappointed that they have lost some personal items.

The sense of loss may be enough for them to pursue their own recourse and retribution, which will be remarkably fucking easy as every cunt and their dog now knows who the thieves are.

Nobody should admire or envy these people, or the shit that will eventually arrive at doorsteps.

That's the way I see it really. Still not seen an explanation as why they've been dealt with so leniently. Non-violent, early plea etc might explain it a bit but steal millions and out in a couple of years?

Seems odd to me

Rossal 2:27 Thu Mar 10
Re: Hatton Garden Heist
ridiculous sentence. Fair play to them for doing the job in the first place but they got caught stealing millions.

Should have got 10-15 years minimum each, they are career criminals.

And as for 'theyre rich and can afford to lose it' what a load of bollocks. Because youve worked hard for something that gives some scumbag the right to steal it from you ?

Marston Hammer 2:22 Thu Mar 10
Re: Hatton Garden Heist
Their early guilty pleas mean they got reduced sentences.

Sounds like when planning it they worked out this was one of the worst case scenarios.

Re: Hatton Garden Heist
if they were on remand from when arrested then they would all be legible for open prison very soon.

If they get a confiscation order that they can't pay next year, then they will get more time.
